I cannot understand and never could, why the unions especially ASLEF allowed TPE management to hand out punishment left, right and centre without any restraints, when my incident occured ASLEF had the chance to help me, TPE wanted rest day working desperately, this could have been the bargaining tool, my charges of gross misconduct was enough for ASLEF to realise what TPE were going to do.
Yet as always, ASLEF were blinkered and gave TPE a rest day working agreement, that was why I decided to leave ASLEF. I had also seen men like Nigel Smith and Ian Foster lose their jobs, not for what they did, but because of the vindictive and discriminatory management of TPE, managers talked openly about these 2 individuals on a daily basis, it was obvious to me that they were marked.
Their charges should never have warranted gross misconduct which to TPE means dismissal, I spent hours putting together information to help these 2 men, yet ASLEF chose to ignore my help.
It was always a case of victimisation, TPE deliberately targeted individual drivers and ASLEF always allowed them to get away with this.
Contrary to what people think, I am not against ASLEF and I was always for the men, I would argue every cause, that is why I was eventually dismissed. Decent men were sent down the road without a care in the world and ASLEF stood back and allowed this to happen.
I complained at every branch meeting and this will be reflected in the minutes. I
could see what this management were doing and how they behaved as individuals, there was a constant battle among themselves, they didn`t work to any set of rules or procedures, they were allowed to impose their own methods of working.
TransPennine Express Managements idea of EQUITY, ranged from no action to dismissal, no action for sexual and racial discrimination or head butting a fellow employee to dismissal for a supposed failure to follow a rule that can be interpreted differently depending on the individual.
Why did ASLEF let them get away with this?
I spent many hours (unpaid) for the cause of Trade Unionism only to be sold down the road by the Trade Union, ASLEF. What was my sin?
I made a mistake by joining the ATCU, because I did not think that I would have been adequately represented by ASLEF after the decent men that I had seen lose their jobs previously, I was promised by the ATCU top quality representation. Where they failed me was not providing a solicitor which was promised.
The representation aside was top quality, this is reflected in the minutes of my hearing and appeal, in any normal situation I would not have been dismissed, but as this whole website shows, no matter what my representations TPE Management had already decided that I was to be sacked.
