Trade Unionism & York Depot
I have been quiet for a long time, but inside the cauldron things have been boiling, I am still pissed off at the way I was treated, especially after the hours of listening to drivers and conductors complaints and then doing what those cowards couldn`t do, I fought their corner and for what?
I never heard anyone backing me up (except the few who had balls), even though you all knew that it was a witch hunt against me. I must admit, it did make me laugh watching certain drivers parading around with their ASLEF badges sticking out, yet they didn`t have the faintest clue about trade unionism.
Does anyone really care what happens to a colleague and fellow union members?
Is there a need for Trade Unions in 2012 and beyond?
What power do they have?
Why are you a member of your trade union?
Do they act in your interest?
Do you think when things go wrong they will back you up (to what level)?
If you are a member and your face doesn`t fit will they back you up? (think long and hard about this question)?
Are you happy at local level with the support you get?
Do you bother to attend your branch meetings? Or do you sit back like the vast majority and take no part whatsoever, ASLEF or RMT badge on your blazer and think that badge means something just because you are wearing it, and you think you are a trade unionist!
The real truth is, your just like the vast majority, the only person you care about is YOU, that also goes for virtually all of your union hierarchy, I say virtually all, because I still know a handful of real men that I can count on one hand who I consider real trade unionists.

How do you feel with the conductor who was jailed for 5 years? In your minds what did he do wrong? Not taking away that sadly a young girl lost her life, but how many of you can say that you would not have signalled 2 on the buzzer to leave that platform? One reason being that you regularly see drunken people virtually every night and every weekend on platforms, it is the norm, even standing like this young girl was.
(Interesting comments posted by TPE members of staff on Facebook about drunks on trains!)
"Nothing will be changed unless there is a will to act. I was asked for more relaxed attitude towards these scallies, so I doubt somebody really cares".
"As long as they buy tickets and the money comes in, until its going to cost the TOCs serious money that'll be the status quo".
"So if you have a quanity of drunken persons on board who could potentially be trouble, remember your IPP principles - back cab is a
cosy safe place".
You can guarantee that this will happen again, because TOC management know that they won't be facing a Judge.
But how many of you have ever bothered to report drunken behaviour? How many of you have been told by control to stay inside your cab when reporting drunken behaviour?
Talking about drunken behaviour, how many of you, especially drivers know of other drivers who on a regular basis have turned up to work intoxicated? There isn't one driver at York Depot who could look me in the face and say, "I don't know one", there also isn't one Driver Manager or union official, past or present who could say the same.
I challenge anyone of you to call me a liar. (something I have done all through this website on hard hitting topics, yet guess what? Not one person has challenged anything I have said. Ask yourself why?). Finally,on the topics mentioned above, you all know what happens, drivers, conductors, health & safety reps, union officials and management , yet you all sit back and allow it.
At least I can hold my head up and say, "I TRIED" to make a difference, CAN YOU?
